Safety and Security Policy

The Greater Nation Arts Collective (GNAC) takes the safety and security of its staff, volunteers, students, performers, and guests very seriously. This policy is in place to ensure appropriate measures are taken to ensure that the performing arts can be enjoyed safely and responsibly.

  1. The Greater Nation Arts Collective has a responsibility to take appropriate measures to prevent the occurrence or recurrence of violence, harassment, bullying, or any form of discrimination.

    • GNAC is committed to providing a space where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and where violence, sexual and non-sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying, abuse of authority, intimidation and any other related misconduct is not tolerated including by staff, volunteers, students, performers, and guests.

    • All staff, volunteers, and any other representing the Greater Nation Arts Collective in any respect are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner during any GNAC activities and when representing GNAC in any manner.

    • Should GNAC become aware of a potential incident of violence, harassment, bullying, or discrimination, it will investigate the incident in a fair, timely and confidential manner and take appropriate corrective measures to stop the behaviour and avoid further incidents.

    • It is to be clarified that violence and harassment does not include any scripted text or actions sometimes found in the performance of the arts.

  2. GNAC is committed to ensuring that any staff, volunteer, student, or performer is comfortable in any artistic role, and will provide certified trainers where required to ensure the safety and comfort of all involved.

    • Those aged 17 and under will only be provided with content that is age appropriate, as determined by the Programming Directors and Chief Administrative Officer.

  3. The safety of all those involved in any GNAC activity is paramount.

    • Any teacher or volunteer working with those 17 and under will have their Vulnerable Sector Check completed prior to starting work. Following that, GNAC will be ensuring that their staff and volunteers' Vulnerable Sector Check is verified on a regular basis.

    • GNAC will reasonably ensure that there is a minimum of two (2) non-related adults at all times when working with those aged 17 and under.

    • Any work that requires manual or experienced labour will be undertaken by trained and/or licensed staff or volunteers, and will follow best practices and proper safety requirements, including the use of appropriate gear and/or equipment.
